I had k3b pb to find burn soft, I fixed it by go to setup menu, enter root pswd, set burning group to disk (accordingly to the /dev file for burner) and add myself to disk goup in /etc/group. Then not only I am able to burn CDs as regular user but all the burning CDs softs were recognised.

If this does not fix the prob, consider reinstall cdrdao pkg.

add yourself to the cdrom group. it seems to be new with slack 10, when i upgraded i lost all user access to the cd burner until i looked in /etc/groups and found that a new group is there.

At least look at the /dev file for your burner, and try to set burning group accordingly in k3b setup

It must be permissions problem, try the suggestion above, kde will setuid the cdrdao program as well to make it available for regular users.

If it fails, try reinstall k3b or cdrdao. k3b and cdrdao should work 'out of the box'

according to the k3b site
you need to:
open k3b
settings
configure k3b
devices
writer
your cd device
cdrdao driver
change from "auto" to "generic-mmc"
