Okay Slack community... I need your help!

I just installed Fedora Core 5 over the top of Windows XP. My plan was to reinstall Windows XP with the remaining free space. Well I'm in quite a pickle!
When I try to boot my Windows XP install cd, I see the "Hit any key to boot from this cd..." message but when I click on it, I just get a black screen and nothing else. I first thought it was a bad disc, even though I just took it out of the package for the first time. So I tried it with a different copy of Windows XP and got the same results. Keep in mind that before I started the Fedora Core 5 install, I tried to boot the Windows XP disc and it worked just fine, going to the blue screen, copying setup files.

What's really weird, is that I popped in my trusty Slackware 10.2 disc and punched in "fdisk /dev/sda" and got "Unable to read /dev/sda". Just for giggles, I typed in "fdisk /dev/hda", even though I know it's an SCSI HDD since that's how I just installed Fedora on it, but then it says something about improper permissions and I'll be unable to write the partition table. When i hit "p", there's no existing table but it says that this drive has 668mb? I only have one hard-drive and it's 250gb.

Anyone have any ideas on how I could at least wipe my hard-drive and start over?

look with "fdisk -l" to see waht drives fdisk can find.

fdisk -l like egag said is a good start. If you really want to start with a disk that's like new, use the fdisk option to create a new DOS partition table. As soon as you start writing on the disk after that, you won't be able to completely recover anything, so make sure it's what you really really really really want to do.
