can you try to kill mpv and see whether cinnamon memory usage decreased as well or not?

its gone away sense, I've rebooted.

though what do you want reporeted, because there is a applet that is screwed up , it is the power manager one that is suppose to show the battery usage persent(?) and it is controling the brighteness of the screen and the settings are not working, all of the options to show different information are not showing any of them on the panle, just the light bulb and slider to change brighteness.

it would be better to report it upstream so they know what's not working and you can provide better diagnostic report for them to debug

I have succeeded at getting Cinnamon 4 working on 14.2. Here is my minimal list of packages that need to be upgraded using the SlackBuilds from the -current source tree:
  1. python3
  2. python-setuptools
  3. meson
  4. ninja
  5. vala
  6. mozjs52
  7. freetype
  8. fontconfig
  9. harfbuzz
  10. atk
  11. glib2
  12. libepoxy
  13. cairo
  14. pango
  15. gtk+3
  16. polkit
  17. libwacom
  18. json-glib
  19. pygobject
  20. pygobject3
  21. dbus-python
  22. python-pillow
I built these and then Cinnamon from Willy's master branch. Likely some things in 14.2 will also need to be rebuilt due to these upgrades. Therefore, I do not recommend that anyone do this unless you are willing to work through those issues. But, it does work, so far quite well. If you are interested in trying, PM me and I will pass along my notes.

Thanks for your SlackBuilds! I wanted to try something new, and I've always been a fan of Cinnamon, so it fits the bill nicely. The only problem I'm having is the same one Candelabrus reported above, but since you said it works on -current I'm pretty sure there's some incompatibility with 14.2, either something else to upgrade or patch. I will investigate.

I know Cinnamon is Cinnamon and not part of Slackware, but Cinnamon. With that said. I'd like to know who is the JackAss that removed the capability of switching desktops off of the root window just by the ease of moving the mouse wheel up or down wherever the pointer (cursor) is at on the root window?

Now the hands must relocate themselves to the keyboard for a three finger configuration to get it to move to a different desktop. Douglas Engelbart had a great idea, and it took off like wild fire, now everyone is using them. Then the makers of Cinnamon came along and what, hit there heads and forgot all about this invention that a larger population of computer users use?

Hey Willy, I think this error will only occur if you have a battery. I just took the battery out of my laptop and now the power management control panel appears. It looks like it fails with a battery because Slackware's version of upower does not have the DeviceLevel enum. I will try upgrading to the latest upower later tonight and see if it fixes the issue.

Edit: yup, upgrading to upower-0.99.7 fixes the issue.

Another thing that I didn't notice at first: with upower-0.9.23 (the version in -current), the power management applet on the panel also does not display anything about the battery. This is fixed after upgrading upower to 0.99.7 and rebuilding. So I'm not sure what the solution is for CSB - whether you want to include upower-0.99.7 as a rebuild or push for Pat to upgrade it in -current.
