Burning CDs using Pat's Linux 2.6.7 kernel from /testing

Is it possible to burn cds in Linux 2.6.7 (the one pat provided) considering ide-scsi is not valid emulation in the 2.6.x series. I've heard a lot of people use ide-cd at boot OR use the -pad option from cdrecord. What do you guys recommend to do and how would you use these options? Thanks
