building gnu oleo... infinite loop in


Hi

I am trying to build a spreadsheet application to cli, called gnu-oleo.

I configured --without-motif... it is supposed to use ncurses... but it enters an infinite loop whrn checking forr mktime... :

I would suggest posting the applicable code from the check... you could also fairly easily bypass it directly.

I was trying to build oleo a couple of years ago wuthout success -even though the problem was not with the mktime conftest. Then recently, I found it was in the ubuntu repos with the needed fixes for both oleo and xbae which it requires.

The mktime problem is in other sources -even some recent ones and is caused by broken implementations of mktime in glibc. It can usuall be fixed by using a newer mktime.m4 macro file, although it will still stall for one minute until it times out.

Now, for an easy solution, here are my src2pkg scripts for building xbae and oleo:

Just save each of those in a separate clean directory, and if you are connected to internet, run 'src2pkg -X' in each directory and the sources and patches will be downloaded for you. Or you can use the URL's at the top of each script to manually download the sources, patches and slack-desc files.

There is a useful html page in the patches for oleo which I found -a tutorial for using oleo which may be handy.

Thx a lot...

I am beginning to see how far i can get with CLI interface alone...

Actually, with tiling text "window manager" GNU-screen with the vertical patch thing...

For text processing one can use Emacs/nano, for spreadsheet one can use sc/oleo/teapot ( but i think oleo is superior to sc ), for engineering specific applications one can use octave/IPython, to browse the web one can use links/w3m...

My 3d modeler applications brl-cad and gmsh all work in CLI either for geometry definition and mesh generation...

Lots of automated tasks can be ferformed with a proper knowledge of Python, bash, sed and awk...

I think one can be very productive without ever using a gui...
