Buggy copy n paste with vim in terminal

My vim has been acting buggy. Basically copy and pasting (selecting text to copy and then middle click to paste) is not working in vim in a terminal. Middle click paste works fine in other apps, including gvim (ie. I can copy text from another app and then middle click paste it into a file open in gvim), but I can't paste text from another app into vim running in a terminal.

When I middle click the contents of the vim buffer (eg. from the last y or d command) are pasted instead of the text selected in the other app. The behaviour changed a while ago (with a long-forgotten -current upgrade) but I have been working around it up until now. What do I need to change to get the old desired behaviour back?

Solved, press shift + middle click to paste selected text from another app, otherwise just plain middle click to paste the contents of the buffer.
