Browsers...

This is not distro related but.. here it is.

What web browsers do yall use?

I use firefox mostly because it came with slackware and also to keep my wife familiar (she used to be strictly windows user but im slowly switching her over) Firefox seems twitchy while scrolling sometimes and seems a little slower in linux than in windows..

I use firefox. I actually think Konqueror has better rendering, but until it can take firefox plugins, I'm not switching

Opera.

Small; fast; versatile; highly configurable; built-in mail client, news client, RSS client, IRC client; highly skinnable; cross-platform.

Doesn't need add-ons but add-ons are now available because they are the in thing this week.

Been my primary browser since Opera v. 3.

I alternate between Firefox, Seamonkey, and Opera.

Opera, which I've been using since the "whole thing" fit on a single 1.44 meg., 3 1/2" floppy. However, recently
I've been using Konqueror. I've never cared for Firefox, can't really say why....

Firefox, with NoScript and VideoDownload Helper.

For those of you who are not familiar with NoScript, I suggest you look it up. The web has become a cesspool of malicious nonsense. Although a lot of the bad scripts are unlikely to effect a Linux machine, I prefer to take the cautious route. It also helps you to avoid being tracked by certain "services" such a Facebook. (Why is Facebook trying to access my browser while I am visiting some random website?) The bottom line is, my browser should only do what I tell it to do, and NoScript adds that functionality.

Sometimes, if I need to use Tor, I use the Tor Browser Bundle which uses an earlier version of Firefox. Again, look it up, if you are not familiar with it.

On occasion I will use lynx or links.

Opera and not just because they pay me to! :P

IceCat right now (just to check it out (it's good!)), but usually Firefox. Both performance and UI are quite good in 4.??, and I simply refuse to browse Internet without AdBlock and NoScript. Skins and other UI-related addons, like Download Statusbar, are a plus too.

I'm using Firefox at the moment. I recently built Chromium and I have Opera installed as well. In fact I think Opera and Chromium are stronger browsers than Firefox, they're faster and fancier, but Firefox is still what I end up using.

It's sort of like an old pair of shoes.. Sure there are new, trendier pairs out there, but Firefox has never done anything wrong, always does everything I need.. and has Adblock/Noscript.. (Well that simile fell apart fast).

slakmagik 05-25-2011 01:57 AM

Seamonkey (and, on occasion, lynx).

Firefox. I had Opera & Chrome on 13.1, but haven't bothered getting them for 13.37.

sahko 05-25-2011 05:10 AM

Not really, elinks just has some (largely broken) javascript support. W3m has better rendering, better i18n support, images support, ...
If w3m did js, it would be my only web browser.
