bootup font unwanted change

sorry if this is unclear. i have installed slack9 before selecting the standard option for lilo. when i installed it yesterday i chose 1024x768.32k option. it was then, when i got the font size i wanted. everything looked clear, crisp and fit the screen how i wanted. after kernel compile it changed back to the default size (big blurry UGLY)..i tried changing my lilo.conf and selected 1024x768 but that didnt work. does anyone know how to change the font back to what it was before? ive tried setconsolefont but that didnt work.

p.s. this isnt in x

thanks for the help in advance.. =]

I'm not sure what you mean you did when you say that you set lilo.conf to 1024x768. You need to uncomment one of the lines that reads:
vga = 7xx
Is that what you did? If you happened to uncomment one of the lines that reads:
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
then you should comment it out again (add the number sign back to the beginning), since these lines are comments to explain what the line below them will do. You need to uncomment the line that reads:
vga=790
If this is what you already tried, then the problem could be related to color depth. I've noticed that some machines would not work right with a setting of higher that 256 colors even though their graphic cards were quite capable of displaying 32,000 or more colors. If 790 does not work I would suggest trying
vga=773
(it shouldn't matter whether you include spaces around the equal sign or not) Remember to rerun lilo after every change in the lilo.conf file to update your system startup. Let us know if you get it to work or not.
Thanks
