bootscreen stops displayer with kernel-2.6.7

i just installed kernel 2.6.7 on my slackware 10 box , the bootup screen comes up fine after lilo but it gets to displayer the cd-rom info and comes onto a Ieee7984 (or somethink like that) and the display stops displaying things but the hdd led is still active, after it has fnihsed loading i can blindly type in my username and password and startx and KDE loads up fine (which i am using now).

i followed jymbo info under the kernel complile guide (
here )

does any one know what could be casuing this problem? i also noticed that the display size is not 1024x768x256 which is set in lilo.conf its more like a 800x600 size.

thanks for your help

Frame buffers. Common problem. Search the forum.

display size is not 1024x768x256 which is set in lilo.conf
The lilo.conf setting is for your Frame Buffer resolution, not your X resolution. You need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
