booting into gnome instead of kde
hey guys i am running slackware 10.1 with KDE set as the default window manager
ive changed /etc/initab to set default runlevel to 4 to boot straight into KDE
but it booted into Gnome, so i edited /etc/rc.d/rc.4 and commented out the section that starts Gnome, rebooted and it went back into Gnome again!
what am i missing?

xwmconfig has kde set as the default window manager
as for .xinitrc ive never used this before, there isnt one in my home dir but in /root it contains
Code:
#!/bin/sh
# $XConsortium: xinitrc.cpp,v 1.4 91/08/22 11:41:34 rws Exp $
userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/.Xresources
sysmodmap=/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap
# merge in defaults and keymaps
if [ -f $sysresources ]; then
xrdb -merge $sysresources
fi
if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi
if [ -f $userresources ]; then
xrdb -merge $userresources
fi
if [ -f $usermodmap ]; then
xmodmap $usermodmap
fi
# Start the window manager:
startkde

This is confusing. If you're using runlevel 4, then kdm or gdm should start at the end of the boot process, giving you the option to choose between KDE and GNOME. Is that not what's happening?

ok i got it now,
the first time i booted into run level 4 it went straight to a Gnome login, so i removed gdm from /etc/rc.d/rc.4 and rebooted, i never noticed the menu button to choose KDE and because it had went into Gnome the first time it was set to load previous session so it kept booting into Gnome.
thanks for your help
