I have a dual-boot setup on one of my PCs and I am always nervous when building a new kernel to run Lilo and go through the 'dd etc' procedure to create a boot sector file for my Windows 'ntldr' to use to boot Linux.
Can I initially test the new kernel this way?:
Quote:
Build the kernel and install the vmlinuz-x.xx.xx and System.map-x.xx.xx in the /boot directory (which is in /dev/hdb7) and also the modules in /lib/modules/x.xx.xx.
Then boot the Slackware installion Cd to the prompt and issue: boot = /dev/hdb7 image = vmlinuz-x.xx.xx root = /dev/hdb7

Will that boot the new kernel and file system?.
Thanks,
Bill.
