Bootdisk problem "ran out of input data"

hey guys,

i've been trying to boot a bare.i kernel from a diskette. everything seemed to work fine, i.e. writing the image to the disk. but when i tried to boot it i got the following error:

==============================================

Loading...................
Uncompressing Linux...

ran out of input data

-- System halted

==============================================

what i did was the following. to copy the image i did:

# dd if=/mnt/cdr/kernels/bare.i/bzImage of=/dev/fd0

this seemed to work, however a ls -al gave out some strange characters. the i tried to boot and got the above error message.

any ideas? thx in advance

oh hi, havn't looked into the thread (forgot about it )...i solved the problem. the commandline was wrong...should have read the README.txt in kernels/...

Fix:
1. making the image (image is created in /tmp):
# ./makedisk bare.i bare.i/bzImage

2. formatting floppy disk to 1.44 MB
# fdformat /dev/fd0u1440

3. cat'ing image to floppy disk
# cat /tmp/bare.i > /dev/fd0

p.s.: the slackware website sais that the rootdisks are created in the same way, yet the install.* files are already images so one must leave out the first step...
