Disable FB_I810. You don't need it, and maybe having two fb comiplied in is causing the problem. Other than that it's fine.

No that didn't help anything I tried it with and without diifferent options and anything that I thought might do something. I think I just put it to rest for now, maybe sometime in the future I'll try it again. So I just put the penguin back on there. I still have the same problems with it but that's in another thread. The white bar that goes across the screen. Thanks everyone so much for their help. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=184121
still haven't solved that one. Oh well thanks again everyone.

Were you even getting the splash background? It would show the picture, just not your silent.jpg where it says "press F2 for verbose mode"? Or was it just not working at all?

This part is really throwing me off as well...

CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_PCI_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_FONTS is not set
CONFIG_FONT_8x8=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y

I can't find those... It must be a difference between the 2.4's and 2.6's.... Try ditching the dummy console... Don't even have that one on a 2.4... I don't use a 2.6 so I don't really know... If you can find:

CONFIG_FBCON_ADVANCED
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB8
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB24
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB32

I'm assuming the CONFIG_FONT takes the place of CONFIG_FBCON in 2.6... Again, I don't know.. I don't have any of this that I'm aware of:

# CONFIG_FONTS is not set
CONFIG_FONT_8x8=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y

No I was never getting the background image. Thanks but I'm not really to worried about it anyway, I hardly ever reboot now anyway unless someone else in the house needs to use windows. Thanks for all the help though. I'll probably take another stab at it sometime in the future. Peace.

Found a typo brenton...

/etc/rc.d/rc/local <-------------------- Theres no rc folder in rc.d -I assume you meant rc.local
Add the line
. /etc/rc.d/rc.bootsplash
to the start of the file, and;
animate shutdown
to the end of the file.

You got me curious Mustang so I installed Slack 9.1 with a 2.6.6 kernel and had a go at it... It works for me..... Not too sure what to tell you... I'm thinking it's something with your scripts... I also like to make packages for future use to cut down on the headache of re-tweaking everything.. I install alot cause I get bored... Your more than welcome to use this if you want...

bootsplash.tgz

It's a mix of Linuxpackages.net and Brentons' package... I also added some stuff of my own. It's not a very conventional package because it will rewrite:

/etc/rc.d/rc.M
/etc/rc.d/rc.S
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
/etc/issue

So if you have already modified those to reflect your own needs then one will probably not want to install this. If, however, you haven't touched them, (ie-fresh install) it's no big deal. They are the standard scripts that the install will place on you. I just did all the foot work with enabling the progressbar... I also made a nifty script called "mksplash" that will make your intrid for you. Just cuts down on typing that long ass command..... /etc/issue just has a clear command added to it as well as making it say "Welcome to Slackware Linux blah, blah, blah" instead of "Welcome to Linux blah, blah, blah".... So, anyone of sound mind would extract this package first to see what it does before installing it....

So..... You more than likely have your kernel right. I went thru it with the 2.6 and everything is there.... Brenton is right, don't bother using anything but the Vesa Framebuffer. Still not sure where that dummy driver is coming from.. I'd get rid of it. I saved THIS patch to my /usr/src directory and then:

cd /usr/src/linux
patch -p1 -l < ../bootsplash-3.1.3-2.6.5-vanilla.patch
(recompile your kernel)
installpkg /path/to/bootsplash.tgz
mksplash 1024x768

and then edit your lilo or grub config so you have the "vga=791" and "splash=silent" and "initrd" pointing to "/boot/initrd.<WhateverResolutionYouPassTo'mksplash'>"

I didn't bother with making the shutdown progressbar.... Don't really like it. Thats easy enough to do tho... I also didn't mess with any animation refrences.... It hangs for a second or two before the progressbar will start to move. Thats normal. There are several things that the bootup proceedure does before mounting /proc, so I'm not too sure how to get around that... One might also want to re-tweak all the "progressbar x" variables as well... It could have been done SLIGHTLY smoother I believe.... I also enabled background images to the different VC's.....

Thats all there is to it..... Good luck with it whenever you get around to messing with it again..... Nice theme Brenton... I like it... Sorry for highjacking your package... It's GPL..... Feel free to do the same....

Yep, fixed, thanks.

I forgot about that line.

/etc/rc.d/rc.S
/etc/rc.d/rc.local

It's a good package, but very dangerous. You really shouldn't be overwriting anything in rc.d, there's multiple versions of the sysvinit package, and also people could modify these themselves. That's why pcxz's package includes his files in the doc folder, as samples.

Quote:

In pcxz's package there's the pcxz-bootsplash script, but i don't really use it. I prefer to do it manually, less things can go worng, and you know what's happening.

Quote:
"/boot/initrd.<WhateverResolutionYouPassTo'mksplash'>"
You can add multiple resolutions to the same initrd file, just use two > instead of one.

Like I said, it's a good package, but the rc.d files shouldn't be included in a package as anything more than a sample. Thanks for your help

Yea.. I would never submit that anywhere... Thats about the worst thing you can do is offer a package that overwrites key files. I just made it for myself is all.... I gave a disclaimer.
