bootsplash i assume u want a graphical bootsplash right....
step1 put the image in the required dir
step2 edit lilo.conf
step3 make the entry as to the exact location of the entries in /boot/lilo
you do not wana undergo the pains then use the simpler way

Or to put it another way...
Patch a kernel with a bootsplash patch. Set up, build, install and boot from that kernel. Then install a bootsplash package from linuxpackages.net and follow the instructions that come with it.
The two bootsplash pages (bootsplash.org and bootsplash.de) and the linuxpackages.net bootsplash packages all include instructions.
