biff works over ssh but not locally (in Konsole)

Hey all. Im having problems getting biff to work properly. Im using fetchmail at the moment and biff works totally fine if I am ssh'd in from another machine (the TTY is pts/[#] when I login that way).
However when I am using my slackware box locally through Konsole I get a machine 'beep' but no biff 'injection' into my konsole (running Konsole my TTY is tty1 or tty[#]). Does any one have any suggestsions?
