best window manager?

what would be the best window manager for this computer:

233mhz PI/II(?)
32MB RAM
6GB HDD
etc...

will enlightenment run normaly on these specs? if not which manager should i choose?

cheers :)

acid_kewpie 10-02-2002 09:52 AM

yes, but blackbox or fluxbox is/are nicer

XPmandrake 10-02-2002 10:11 AM

are they included in slack cd1?

NSKL 10-02-2002 10:14 AM

No, blackbox is on slack extra cd (extras folder on ftp site) and AFAIK flux is not included yet, but xfce is included in the 8.1 release, its nice and small too, although i prefer black/fluxbox

You can get them off the net anyway, so all that *box is good for your setup, be it fluxbox, blackbox or hackedbox (it is different from cracked box :D)

That's totally an opinion.. ;)

But Enlightenment should work with no problems on your machine. I use it on a 400mhz celeron with no problems.
But blackbox is nice though. Try them both out, see which one you like better.

You can also try out Window Manager, Sawfish ( see Thymox, I'm recommending it ) XFce and many others.

I run a P4 and I still prefer Fluxbox! At last a WM works as fast as me. :D

i have a 233 i tried running enlightenment on.. It works, but is painful... check out windowmaker or openbox.

XPmandrake

you can go here to get the fluxbox. it is very nice. most of the window manager out there are very nice. use the one that you like, not the one that everyone tells you to use. E, ice, fluxbox and blackbox will run fine on that computer. The fluxbox site has an slackware package, installation is a breeze. installpkgtool "fluxboxfilename".

yep iv chosen fluxbox :)

cheers everyone

Woohoo! Another flux convert :D

Cool

Yup, fluxbox is nice, very nice. "Welcome to Fluxbox, may I take your order please."

I installed Fluxbox last night and wow! I love it! I never have been a fan of the GNOME and KDE desktop styles and have always been a big fan of Windowmaker. I tried Windowmaker again a few days ago (I just installed Redhat 8.0 last weekend. Haven't used Linux in awhile) and it was still as I remembered it, nice, but it felt stale.

Checked out Fluxbox and to me it feels like Windowmaker+. Same reasons why I liked Windowmaker with a lot of new features like the tabs at the top (which I love).

Hurray for Fluxbox =)
