Beryl Settings Manager will not work - module not found
 

I am running Beryl-0.2.1 in -current and it works fine. The only problem is that I cannot make the beryl settings manager work. The first error was that it could not find the berylsettings module. It seems that it was installed under Python-2.4 instead of Python-2.5 so I copied it there. Problem solved.
But now it can't find the gtk module and nothing I do is helping. I reinstalled pygtk and gtk+ and made symlinks around to various places but nothing is helping.

Has anyone else experienced this? I would like to fix it so that I can tweak beryl.

I'm having the same problem, when I run
/usr/local/bin/beryl-settings
as root I get the settings window up but any changes I make there don't have any effect. I had beryl working well on a previous install and I'm running Slackware 11.0 with X11R7 on Dropline with a 2.6.20.9 kernel

I found out the problem is python modules, I got pygtk for both gtk+ and gtk+2.... then I got pygobject and some other stuff, then I got a different error about unrecognized image file formats which was fixed by installing librsvg not it works. to see if your probs the same put @python@ into the terminal and then "import "module"" where "module" is the module you want to load if you get an error then something is not right and you need to install the python module first. I got most of my sources from ftp.gnome.org.

I actually tried manually loading the modules and the one that is giving me trouble is gtk. I'll keep trying but in the mean time, I have a solution that is a hassle but it works:
I use Sabayon, which has Beryl built in, only to make the adjustments I want. Then, something you might try, I export the settings using the 'export' button to a file that I then copy over to my Slack ~/.beryl/settings file. Then when I boot in Slack and run Beryl, everything works!! I got the water effect working, the Beryl splash screen, transparent cube, the shimmer effect when grabbing windows, and every single minimize/maximize effect (since I set it to random).
I would like to fix beryl-settings but until I do, I have a roundabout way that would work for anyone who needs it.
The funny thing I noticed is that when I'm in Sabayon, I don't even get those effects to work!! But the settings file is correct and they do take effect in Slackware. Go figure...
