Bash updates?
I have noticed a couple of bash updates... still at 4.2 however. I thought the latest was 4.3?

Yes 4.3 is the most recent version. Bash Current Status
Is there a question beyond that?

Because they're patching 4.2, bash-4.2-patches, see that the latest one was 9/28/2014; there were actually two patches that day, and then earlier in the month, as well as a few earlier this year.
Basically if you have a distro that does updates or are performing updates on your own, you'll likely get these patches. There are notes describing the changes for each patch.
Probably the most important point is that Slackware 14.1 was released like last November and bash 4.3 was released in February this year.

Reason: Emphasize why not released with 14.1

And Slackware usually don't ship upgrades in the -stable releases (unless a security patch be distributed only in a newer version, as happens for instance with Firefox).
