no..i didn't mean disk speed.
but you mentioned buying a new pc.
if you do that it'll be probably 2-3 times faster than what you've got now.

I see-a new pc would be faster. I'm thinking you bought your pc with Win on it originally. Was your native OS faster on your harddrive than Linux is now? Mine definately is and I was told years ago that that's normal....

never heard that windos was faster in any way in disk access.
and i build my own pc's.

that's good news-not sure why all my drives have been slow. The WD that's in there now is 7200 rpm and the original Conner that came with the pc is 5400 rpm....they seemed equally slow.

How can I speed up my disk drive's performance in Linux?

The only time I saw Linux being slower than Windows was when I forgot to enable DMA support in the kernel, and all days at 4:40 am when updatedb is run

I pulled out the Western Digital and put in my old drive (5400 RPM, 4 GB Conner) with a second drive (5400 RPM, 6 GB Fujitsu). How can I get the best speed performance out of these drives?
