automount won't unmount

I am having a problem with getting automount to unmount, here are my config files:

/auto /etc/auto.misc --timeout=10

cdrom -fstype=iso9660,user,ro :/dev/cdrom

reiserfs vfat msdos iso9660

I know that udev is adding the devices correctly because (un)mounting works fine manually. I initially had the timeout at 60s and I've tried other values, but I'm still doing something wrong.

I'd appreciate any ideas on this.

try to remove --timeout=10 from auto.master,
comment the cdrom line in fstab if it exists,
and finally change /dev/cdrom to the device it points to (try ls -al /dev/cdrom) in auto.misc

/etc/rc.d/rc.autofs restart

Then insert a cd, cd into /auto/cdrom, see what happen, type mount whitout argument, then
cd into another directory (in your home dir for example), wait 5 second and retype mount
without argument to see if cdrom is umounted
