LinuxQuestions.org - Automatic sleep/hibernate outside KDE

Hello, penquinistas -- let me introduce myself. I am not a homosapien as homo may refer to the undistingusihed hominid masses and sapien may refer to cleverness not of he lofty type but of low cunning--hence, I am sentien not sapient. I am a Vampire elven humanoid that descends from the Annunaki and my people suffered a thousand year elven holocaust at the hands of the Catholic church that started under Constantine that is why my username is DracoSentien and not HomoSapien.

Now that is out of the way. I started using Linux in 1997 but then around 2001 switched to the *BSDs and when I use Linux, very little if at all, over those years it was always slackware as crap like Ubuntu is like the opposite of OpenBSD. So I came back to Slackware Linux because I switching my IT focus to developing android applications , in Kotlin, from cybersecurity.

So, anyway, in OpenBSD, on thinkpad laptops if you close the lid it goes into sleep automatically. But this only works , with Slackware with KDE. I use the OpenBSD window manager CWM from slackbuilds on Slackware. It is really great -- better than ratpoison !

I know you can do it from the command-line, in slackware, and that I can make it into a script but does anyone know how to hook the script into the lid-close action ?

Also, I run Slackware-current (which I find more stable than Fedora 30) so I am guessing that if manually install the 5.0 Kernel this would not be a good idea because it would mess with tracking -current with slackpkg ? This is probably better documented so if you the documentation exists you just point me to that. Maybe, I can just blacklist the 5.0 kernel so I can still track -current. I don't even know if this is a problem I am bringing up I am just guessing it is.

Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed from an OpenBSD refugee. OpenBSD may have its usages in the security industry but a Kotlin android development platform it really can't be but slackware can !
