Auto-sourcing

I've fixed the problem - I noticed I didn't have a ~/.bashrc file - so I copied /etc/profile to ~/.bashrc and it works perfectly now.

Whenever I start up XTerm, Yakuake or rxvt, the environment variables are all set properly (ie. my $PATH variable), but I'm still staring at a "bash-3.1$" prompt.

Is there any way I can tell these terminal emulators (most importantly rxvt - my terminal emulator of choice for absolutely no reason), to forcibly read /etc/profile at not use the default bash PS1? In short of someone telling me, I would be happy with just a URL, or a pointer as to where else I could look.

Does not modifying PS1 in your ~/.bashrc accomplish what you want?

Simply having a ~/.bashrc fixed it.

I issued:

$ cp /etc/profile ~/.bashrc

...and all works fine.
