Auto login on minimal system?

Hey, all got what I would think should be a fairly simple question. I am preparing to deploy between 20-30 linux boxes with Slack 12 on them. Due to hardware constraints of having only 192mb ram, and anywhere from 500mhz to 800mhz I made this install as thin as possible. So basically for a GUI I have X and Fluxbox. The whole point of these boxes is going to be fore students to turn the computer, on have boot into linux, auto login under a limited user and auto run rdesktop.

From there they do all the cool things on our TS server we will be purchasing and build soon.

So given such a limited install what is the best way for me to get these boxes to login as user rdp, and startx? Is there a way to have it log in under just text, then execute startx? Or should I be looking to try to install something like KDM or GDM?

Thanks,
Archer

You can set up autologin with no password required for non-root users by modifying your /etc/inittab and /etc/login.defs files.

Add a -n option to agetty in inittab and set the NO_PASSWORD_CONSOLE variable in login.defs.

You can invoke startx from (for example) /home/rdp/.profile

As you probably already know, you can start X programs in your window manager via the xinit files.

Alternatively, though I've never tested this, there are autologin options for xdm.
