ATI Radeon HD 3870 fglrx acceleration setup
I understand that there are people with the same issue who have posted various places on the internet, but they were all on slackware 10.2.
I am using 12.2. I just tried installing the fglrx driver from the ATI site. I ran aticonfig --initial, and my xserver died when I restarted it. I ran aticonfig --initial -f, to no avail. I had to do a fresh install. I've seen the acceleration guide for slackware. I know nothing about kernel recompilation nor Xorg.conf modifications. Could someone shed some light on my problem? It'd be a big help. |
The latest versions(9-x) of fglrx require a kernel recompile, 8-12 works great however out of the box.
|
So I could just download a 8.xx version and run the installer, followed by aticonfig --initial? It's really that easy?
|
Oh no! It would seem that I cannot find older drivers (8.12) of the ATI catalyst/fglrx instead of the 9.2 on the AMD site!
Does anybody know where I can download 8.12? |

Thank you all so much!
I'll let you know how it works. |
uh oh!
I just installed and aticonfig --initial ed, and when I type glxinfo or fglrxinfo, I get a segmentation fault at the end of the stuff it spits out. This is probably bad. I'm going to reboot, and hope my computer doesn't eat its xserver... Isn't getting the OpenGL vendor string as Mesa project a bad sign? Well, I think I have one of those on my hands... |
Sorry yall, I know double posting is bad, and triple posting is like 50 years in LQ prison or something, (XD) but my graphics work better than ever! Everything ran at a higher resolution, and with more speed! It's great to have working graphics acceleration!
