ATI Drivers 8.34.8, should ATI users update?
Hey hey, I'm using 8.33.6 with my card, and I noticed the new release of ATI's driver -- 8.34.8. When I read instructions about installation of ATI cards, they always said to make sure you had the most updated version of the drivers installed. Should I update to it? I know there are reasons such as support for hardware n such, but this set of drivers works well for me. What do yall think? Newer drivers doesnt always necessarily mean faster and better performance, does it?

Don't fix what isn't broken.

Well, you could, but chances are something will go wrong :D, but maybe not, maybe I'm just a pessimist ?

Typically ATI describes the things that they have fixed in the release notes. If any of them apply to you...then update. Missing an update isn't a big deal, however if it has been a year and you are about 3-4 updates behind, consider. |
They don't support the 2.6.20 kernel yet, as far as I know. You need to patch the drivers first before attempting to install on 2.6.20. There is a thread on the rage3d forums discussing this.
PS: I'm still using the 8.31.5 drivers, as masonm said if it ain't broke don't fix it. |
