ATI changes to Mesa w/change of WM via KDM

Hi,

This is more an observation than a question as I have googled a fix for this issue that does work.

I use the fglrx module for hardware acceleration with my ATI card in Slack-12.0. This is mostly to get 1440x900 on my flat screens, but I do use some other apps that take advantage - like a GL screensaver and GoogleEarth.

I also use KDM and noticed that changing users or WMs via KDM resulted in Mesa being used for 3D rendering rather than ATI fglrx after any of these changes, even though fglrx was running fine initially.

I googled this and found the following that fixed the issue.

Add the following line to /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc in the [X-:*-Core] section:

TerminateServer=true

This prevented Mesa from being used whenever I changed users or WM via KDM. Prior to this, I needed to do a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart hardware 3D via fglrx.

I did a quick search on LQ to see if this had been mentioned before but did not find anything. I just wanted to post this in case others saw the same behavior and did not know what to do.

My apologies if this has been stated before.

Thanks
