Question ATI's Big Desktop & Games

Hello all.

I've two CRT connected to my slack box but the thing is that when I play some game I get the two screens displaying the same thing (dual vision, kinda).

What I would like to know is if there is any way to just use one monitor while I'm playing and the other one displaying the other half of the desktop or something else.

Thanks,
Hyakutake.

I use Big Desktop as well, and have wondered the same thing. I do not think it is possible, except by playing in windowed mode and just having the window take up one screen. The reason, as I understand it, is that when you have Big Desktop, your actual resolution includes both screens. I'm not sure about Big Desktop but under MergedFB (open source radeon driver) I could run a game and it would take up both screens, being split down the middle. What you are seeing is the game changing the resolution from the crazy double-width to that of a single monitor, which kicks X into clone mode. You can do the same thing yourself using xrandr.

What you could do is run in dual head mode, which runs two separate X servers on each screen. This would allow a full screen app to only take one screen. This is accomplished, I think, by having two separate Screen sections in your xorg.conf, one for each display device.
