Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI SATA HD Support
Hello, I have been searching for an answer to my problem for some time now and have not had any luck. Can anyone tell me how to enable SATA support for 2 WD drives I purchased? I am running Slackware 12.0 and have tried various things (upgrade kernel, compile support for every SATA chipset, etc). Below is output from lspci which makes me think that chipset support is not available yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The ATI/AMD SB700 chipset is very new are you using the latest 2.6.24 kernel? Otherwise just enable SATA/PATA emulation mode in bios. (you'll lose hotswap and queuing.) |

I have been trying to successfully build a 2.6.24 kernel but am having problems with the right options. I did however, get it to detect my SATA ports by enabling a few options. For the time being, I am using my old IDE drive as I work through the issues, and may make the switch back to a SATA drive later. Anyone know if the hugesmp.s kernel from the base 12.0 boot disk will be updated for SATA AHCI support? I think this was the magic flag which resolved my problems. |

I am trying to install openSuse 10.3 through SATA DVD drive, and no chance. the installation freezes complaining about no repository found. Is there a way on the mobo to make it behave as IDE may be it will solve it? Thanks. |

On a side note, I was playing around with Ubuntu and the default kernel on the boot disk has support for sata drives. There may be a similar boot disk for openSuse, but I don't know of one. |
