asunder cannot open display

EDIT: Sorry to waste anyone's time. Starting other gtk apps was failing, so I rebooted and it works. It seems that it was related to a failed xcompmgr attempt with a blur radius for shadows of 1000 (typo). After that I couldn't run xcompmgr anymore, and then this happened.

I get the error:
(asunder:23127): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0

when I try to run asunder after compiling it. I am running slackware 12.1 and X is definitely running. I get this error with asunder 1.6 and 1.6.1.

I was wondering if any of my fellow slackers know why.
