Assessing 3rd-party packages

What is the easiest way to assess a 3rd-party tgz package made for Slackware? For example, I'd like to upgrade to Firefox 1.06 using the package at Slacky.it. However, I first want to make absolutely sure that the installation would correspond to my official Firefox package.

(I know that I can just wait a couple of days and PV will post an official Firefox 1.06. But I'm really asking for future reference as much as out of impatience.)

I unpacked the tgz file for the Slacky.it Firefox 1.06 to see what I could see. The target directory structure was created, and I could determine what existing files would be removed and what symlinks created. However, I was hoping that I could find something like an installation script.

Thanks for helping.

Oh, yeah, the docs... :-]

I assume, then, that all I'd need to do is use the -warn option with installpkg, right?

Thanks for the tip.
