ARTS garbage for Slack 10.1?

I try to stay away from using the ARTS sound server because frankly, it just flat out sucks. ARTS seems to always distort the sound and lead to crackling. However, there are some programs such as JUK that require the sound output to play through the ARTS server. Is there some reason why ARTS is so crackly in Slack? When I used to run Fedora Core 3, I never had this problem, so is it specific to slack? Lemme know.

No! I have no probs with slack 10.1 and ARTS. I'd say it's the sound driver/and or
sound module that ALSA is using............

<Solved>

thanks for your reply, freakyg.

I'm gonna chalk this one up to me being rash and impulsive (in other words, stupidity). I just hadn't tinkered around enough with aRts to given it a chance. After fooling around with it a bit, I found that the "wet" "damp" and "dry" sections of the "freeverb" were turned up fairly high (above half way). They were causing the soundcard to max out at otherwise acceptable volumes. By turning these features down, I eliminated the crackly tones.

i've decided that it's probably my really crappy intel integrated chipset that's causing the problems. The deal is that I run an output line from my computer to my external stereo amplifier... so I need the volume on the computer jacked up to the max. That's making everything crackly 'n stuff.
