Are there any kde 4.3 packages for 13

Or do I need to download all the source and compile

vinegaroon 09-10-2009 10:53 PM

http://cardinal.lizella.net/~vbatts/...ackages/4.3.1/
x86_64 packages.
Source/SlackBuilds are there.

Does anyone know of any 32 bit packages for KDE 4.3.1?

Does anyone know of any 32 bit packages for KDE 4.3.1? [2]

Take a look at this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...e-13.0-751453/

I too would like to see 4.3.x packages appear in Current. I'm using 13.0 32-bit.

I'm not really doing a lot with KDE 4 other than using as a basic desktop for an HTPC. As a basic desktop things should be rock steady and this is not the case. Despite this nominal use, I have found 4.2.3 buggy and cantankerous. Reading the forum here indicates I'm not the only one who has found 4.2.3 buggy.

Browsing the 4.3.x change logs motivates me to update. I realize there are some dependency changes the devs need to consider, but I'm tapping my foot waiting for packages to appear in Current.

I'm using KDE 4 with my HTPC and will continue as such. I'm not opening the old arguments here about the merits of KDE 4. I only want a less buggy version. Not to mention that a few apps have been added to 4.3, such as Kdenlive. There is another thread addressing the issue of video editing and making home-brew DVDs. Folks using KDE want a KDE tool, not a GTK tool (DeVeDe).

I realize the dev crew needs and wants a rest period. I'm just hoping 4.3.1 packages appear soon in Current. :)

I'm using the official build scripts for 4.2 and adjusting them to compile 4.3.1.

I noticed that in the build order there is:
kdebase-workspace
kdebase
kdebase-workspace

Does anyone know why is kdebase-workspace being built twice?

4.2.3 is a typo for 4.2.4 right :)

What's stopping you from running Kdenlive with KDE 4.2.4? I'm running the latest svn releases here.

DeVeDe is nothing compared to Kdenlive. DeVeDe is a one-click-encoder. Kdenlive is a full blown NLE. There's a slew of QT based one-click-encoders and DVD Authoring applications. KMedia Factory is one that pops into my head without searching kde-apps.org or freshmeat.net.

Can't say I have any issues with KDE 4.2.4 and stability.
Code:

uptime
 14:25:42 up 26 days,  7:53, 10 users,  load average: 2.27, 2.22, 2.40

KDE has yet to crash on me in 26 days - that's pretty darn good in my book :)

I think there is a comment in the build script on why its done twice.

Oops, I missed that thanks.

Edit: Still not sure why its built twice though. All it says is "for good measure".

mlangdn 09-12-2009 08:50 AM

I just downloaded and upgraded/install new all the 4.3.1 pkgs from the above link. I did this on a test partition that is not fully up to date. Its not missing much, but so far, I have had no problems. K3b was not rebuilt in these packages, but it don't function very well anyway.

Nepomukmuk came up and indexed for less than a minute and then fell silent. I have no clue wtf akonadi is, so I don't know if it functions anyway. :)

So far, so good!

So far so good.

I downloaded libknotify from the link above, the build scripts from slackware.com and the source packs from kde.org.

Curingaa 09-13-2009 10:48 PM

I got 4.3.1 running here. I've tried download bluewhite64 kde's packages and deps, failed; tried those packages links: failed; then i download Volkerding's scripts of slackware64-13.0/source/kde and worked! Just have to change version in KDE.options script and remove all patches that Slackbuilds applies... I got bunches of warnings but im running 4.3.1 now... Any specific help PVT me...

I d/led these packages and they work well.

Martinezio 09-21-2009 02:16 AM

Hi, I'm also trying currently these packages, and seems to work good, but not all features are complete, I think.
KDE wasn't able to install new icon themes, and other features from kdelook.org while using built-in dialogs.
Right after install, there was complete lack of icons on desktop, sidebars and in menus. I was able to restore those icons using Control Center, and now it's look good, but I was confused if the system is crashing, or just hang up...
