Apply a patch and rebuild xorg?

I would like to try to rebuild Xorg in Slackware 12 after applying the patch from here: http://www.amd.com/files/connectivit....00.0101.patch

I'm having a hell of a time though finding the source tree that this patch would be happy with. I looked in the 5th cd under source/x but i couldn't find anything that mirrors http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xorg/ in there.

Is the xorg tree split up into separate packages? Is it possible to use the slackware source packages for what I want?

Or else, did anyone try to rebuild X in Slackware using the source code from somewhere other than the CDs?

Thanks

You don't have to use the source or SlackBuild script provided on the Slackware CDs to build X. That is just the way the official packages were built.

You can certainly download the source tree from the XOrg site, apply whatever patches you need, and build that; the end result should be the same.

Though if you did go that route, you would want to either write a SlackBuild for it or adapt the existing XOrg one. You definitely want it built into a module, and the ability to rebuild it numerous times for tweaking may end up being a necessity.

Good luck with that one. It's made for monolithic X11R6.9..... My guess is that you would spend hours and hours locating the relevant module names in X11R7 and then more hours of busting the patch up only to realize that it's not gonna work anyway.

I noticed that patch was from ati/amd... Can you provide a description page?

xc/config/cf/xorg.cf

is this not in here?

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 264638 2006-05-19 18:41 ./x/x11/src/util/xorg-cf-files-1.0.2.tar.bz2

found that here

thanks guys

i found (lucky me!) this page: http://packages.debian.org/unstable/...xorg-video-amd and the source tarball compiles and installs fine in Slackware. It works too :)

here are the details of my solution: http://littlesvr.ca/linux-stuff/arti...videoslack.php

fyi the patch i linked to was from http://www.amd.com/us-en/Connectivit..._11363,00.html
