Application menu fonts
I don't think this is specific to slackware...
I use slackware 9 with kde, keramik style (but the same goes in gnome apparently) and have set up the menu with nice anti-alias font that gives my desktop a really slick look. It appears that some applications use this font for the menus (all the kde applications, obviously + mozilla + netscape) where others (the gimp, abiword, etc..) just ignore it and use the 'ugly' default font which was found everywhere in the previous version of kde. I haven't set this font anywhere. My question is: is there a way to 'declare' an application so that the font of its menus is picked up from the default window manager font? |
No, not really. Each toolkit has it's own settings. You've aparently set the QT options, but GTK applications will ignore that. Use Nautilus to get to the Gnome2 control center and you can set fonts for GTK2 apps there.
Fonts for GTK1.2 apps have to be set with a gtkrc file, you can probably use the theme-switcher (non gnome app) for that. This of course doesn't affect programs that use other toolkits, such as xaw, tk/tcl, motif, lestif, wings, etc. Unfotunately fonts in X has always been a pain. |
Sorry but I am not sure I understand...
Do you mean that I need to navigate to /usr/share/control-center-2.0/interfaces and somehow edit the file 'font-properties.glade' to enter manually my settings? Thanks for your clarification Bahamat |
No, I mean run the program "nautilus" click "Go" on the menu and select "Start Here", double click on "Desktop Settings" double click on "Fonts"
|
Ah, I see. Well, I had already done that and It doesn't fix the font in any application as far that I can see.
My main concern is the browser Phoenix... Thanks for your tip anyway. |
Phoenix currently links against GTK1.2, not GTK2.
Having said that, go back and re-read my previous post. Things should start making sense soon. If not, re-read it again. Repeat this step until it makes sense. |
I don't know anything about gtkrc I am afraid. Don't know where to start to configure it...
Can you help further? |
