Apache+php+mysql

hi..
I have installed phpMyAdmin-2.6.2 on my Slackware 10.1, but when I try to access to localhost/phpMyAdmin/index.php I have the error:

cannot load mysql extension;
please check PHP configuration

On the web I have find that is necessary to set the extension in /etc/apache/php.ini file, so I have set:

extension=mysql.so
extension_dir= "/usr/lib/php/extensions/"

but the problem persist..

The version of packages are:
apache-1.3.33
mysql-4.1.11
php-4.3.11

help me!!

check your /etc/apache/error_log file for error messages. As for mysql and php support, its different in Apache 1.x than 2.x. If you want, my guide can help you sort it out for Apache 2.x

Is apache 1.3.3 incompatible with php4.3.11??
How can I solve my problem??

Hi.....
I have installed apache2 and php5..
The problem is solved!!!

Now can I delete the directory /etc/apache ?

I have Apache 1.3.33 with PHP 4.3.11 and with MySQL 4.0.24 working just fine

Maybe if you re-installed apache and php and mysql with the slackware-packages your problem would also have been solved.
