APACHE 2 Mysql 5 and AJAX

On the slackware 10.2 machine we are running apache 2.0x and mysql 5
now one of the users is trying to get a message board to run. it says it is AJAX based [I know nothing about this]
it will not work on this server...it does not refresh its section [this is a module in Joomla]
that aside... how do i make sure i have it setup to support AJAX? is this a compile option

Really I don't know, but as I undertand this thing - Ajax is asynchronous java and xml. Consequently, it's not very server specific. It more client side specific because you need browser which supports it.

my confusion is that the site was originally on a xp computer running apache2 php 5 and mysql. The ajax based part of the site works fine from there.
When we moved this site to the linux server and point to it using the same browser that worked when it was the XP machine the AJAX component does nto work anymore
