Anyone Running RC 3 on a Production System...calling all RISK Takers : )

Just curious if anyone is running RC 3 on a production system? Any major issues come up yet?

Work without errors
PS. Router without KDE or another DE, only console.

I use it on my laptop (Asus F8V; x86_64 & multilib; XFCE-desktop) without a hitch. Only had to patch inkscape to get it working (poppler upgrade breaks inkscape) but lost pdf-shuffler because of a (py-)poppler-related error.

Quote:

bash-4.2$ pdfshuffler
Error: Could not import pdfshuffler
Cause: /usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/poppler.so: undefined symbol: poppler_page_render_selection_to_pixbuf

brobr, add this patch after the others in the pypoppler.SlackBuild (first copy it in its "patches" folder naming the patch file like shown below) with a line like
Code:

patch -p1 < $CWD/patches/pypoppler-0.12.1-poppler-0.18.0-minimal-fix-revisited.patch
I recreated looking at the modifications here (that doesn't apply cleanly).

Hi Ponce,

That's great, works a treat ;). I can take my pdfs apart again, brilliant.

I'm running RC 3 with XFce 4.10 on one of my two main desktops. RC 3 is running like a champ. :)

Code:

Linux odin 3.2.28-smp #2 SMP Thu Aug 23 12:58:19 CDT 2012 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Slackware64-current RC3 is running on a Dell D620 and Dell D430. Works great on both.

running RC3 on all of my desktop/workstation/laptop/virtual servers :)

Just a little squawking from NetworkManager.

Other than that, no issues really other than that several of the SBo buildscripts need some version bumps/patches to build the software now.

@ponce, LXDE is working ~nice~ :) (used Git)

I'm going to reinstall few server machines (old Debian, partially-updated-but-still-living Gentoo) next week. If Slackware will be still in RC state at that time, I'll install --current. All recent RC's are very stable and I don't expect anything to break at this stage. Kernel version shouldn't change, so when stable is ready I'll just update these servers to "stable" and stay on stable ground.

I'm looking forward to this, because Slackware 14 brings at least few useful improvements - bridge support in rc.inet1(.conf) scripts. It still doesn't support ethernet bonding, but it shouldn't be that hard to hack rc.inet1 ;) I'd also like see OpenLDAP server (it works without PAM!) in Slackware, but I can compile it myself from SlackBuild and can live with that.

I did a clean install yesterday of Slackware 14 RC 3, I had to configure the same things as I did in 13.37, so it felt normal. I have experienced one thing, and that is the graphic's or rendering of, it periodically flashes ASCII characters when shutting down or at the CLI...I'm going to look into this problem today. Otherwise, everything seems normal and functioning as it should.

Having said that, 13.37 felt WAY more stable out of the box, ( I don't know why, it just feels that way) but I expect the same thing of 14 when it is Released as a Final Thing of Beauty : )

Thanks for all your sharing and input, it's what makes the community great.
