Anyone having issues with the Kernel 3.13?
I haven't been able to get this Kernel to run properly on Slackware 14.1 - of course I'm troubleshooting and thought I would ask here as well.
I'm not getting errors, the screen just goes to black when trying to boot with the Kernel. Any ideas?

More info is needed, for example which video hardware is involved, which kernel boot parameters you use, does the system lock up totally or can you SSH into the machine (if you don't have a second machine to test that, does the machine properly shut down after waiting a while and pressing the power button)?
I am using 3.13 since about RC3 or so, without any problems.

Sounds like a graphics problem (duh!)
3.13.0 is fine here, with Intel graphics. *But* I made sure to enable this new option:
Code:
Intel 8xx/9xx/G3x/G4x/HD Graphics (DRM_I915) [M/n/?] m
Enable modesetting on intel by default (DRM_I915_KMS) [Y/n/?] y
Enable legacy fbdev support for the modesettting intel driver (DRM_I915_FBDEV) [Y/n/?] (NEW) y
If you've got Intel graphics and you didn't enable this option, that might be the explanation. Otherwise, can you log in through the network and do a dmesg?

Thanks, I'll get back to you on your questions...it is an much older tower but I have an older beefed up Video Card in it, don't remember what it is : ) I tried using my 3.10.17 config, but that didn't work either. Anyway, I'll gather my data
I plan on trying again this afternoon, I'll try and provide more details as I do another run.

OK, I'm brewing a pot of coffee and about to start this Kernel Upgrade : ) Turns out I'm running an old NVidia GeForce 7500 LE in this old Tower, that may be an issue all by itself : )
bacl later.

Good news, I got Kernel 3.13 to boot up, when I updated Lilo it warned it couldn't recognize my video adapter, which I have set to VGA = normal. The only change I made to the Kernel was to enable the NVIDIA Nouveau, but X still won't load...it locks up just as the desktop is coming to light.
I ran X -configure - it snapped out a new Xorg.conf.new for me, I put that in /etc/X11 like a good boy....ran startx, everything goes well, it loads a desktop but with no menus, just the Desktop Icon at the top right hand corner with the nice blue splash screen : )
Getting closer at least!
More to come....

OK, I'm changing this to solved only because I removed the NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE Graphics Card, and I'm running Slackware 14.1 with Kernel 3.13 using the Integrated 82945G/GZ Chipset : ) And all appears to be running smoothly.

Good call. There were big changes in Nouveau with 3.13, and apparently you found a regression
With the GeForce 7500, your choices would have been to install the freedom-hating nVidia binary driver (you'd need the Legacy version 304.x from SBo), or, if you prefer to uphold free software, you could have used Speakup instead...

I wasn't married to the video card, it came with the system so I just used it. It's just a test box for me play, doing the seek and destroy stuff. But I will say this, by removing it and using the Intel Chipset....the system is way faster, and Slackware 14.1 with 3.13 are much happier.
I also watched Linus tell NVIDIA to F-off so I have to feel a little freedom to not use it : )
Thanks for your help.
