Wow, that is an oldie. Reminded me of the days when I still lived in the US (decades ago) and had a subscription for CD's. They used to come from Concord, Calif. if memory serves.

The company was known as Walnut Creek CDROM. They had a Walnut Creek address, but the packages may have been shipped out of Concord, the next city north.

When I was starting with Linux around 2004, I was told that Slackware didn't come on CDs but on packs of floppies, the only Linux distro to be distributed in that way. Is there any truth in that story?

At one time, perhaps, but the date on the CD package in my previous post is March 1995.

Yup, I'd forgotten the name. I had a subscription for a while way back then.

I do not know it it ws the only one, but Slackware was (downloaded) floppies only until the first Walnut Creek CD-set was released in March 1995 (that was around release 2.2, I believe).
The whole set of distribution directories was based on "fitting on a floppy" until about release 7.1, see i.e. this tree

(from a mounted 7.1 CD #1).

See the "makeflop" script in the middle of all those separate directories.

PS: alle file- and directorynames were restricted to 8+3 too, so they could be stored on a FAT12 filesystem (so NO version numbers in the package names, etc.).

Walnut Creek CDROM was always in Concord (and I don't recall a Walnut Creek mailing address), but "Walnut Creek" sounded better for the company name.
