I'm not one to post on a whim without searching.... Don't understand why this thing isn't working.... I've been trying to get my Logitech First/Pilot Wheel mouse working for awhile... Having a hardware failure with my touchpad and need to disable it before it drives me crazy. These things seem to be tricky. Works in Redhat as a IMPS/2 on /dev/input/mice..... No go in Slackware tho.... Hotplug fires up on boot. USB is enabled... I've tried 5 or 6 different protocols along with random devices designations.... dmesg seems to recognize a second usb device with "no driver assigned". Understandable if you haven't fired up X yet.... Anybody have this same generic wheel mouse working under Slackware? Cost me 5 or 10 bucks at MicroCenter..... Thanks all... I'll keep looking.
Not sure of that, but this problem could be related to HID support as Slack 9.1 with 2.4.22 kernel comes with HID and usb-mouse compiled as module.
As I understand hotplug is not working properly on your machine, you should try uncommenting the occourencies of usbmouse in your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules under the USB device support section.
This should load the usbmouse module at boot activating the mouse driver.
Hope this helps
Ciao
O.k... I knew if I posted, I would figure it out on my own... It always works that way for me... I noticed in /proc/bus/usb/devices that it said "none" for the driver...... I'm very adverse to modules for this very reason cause more often than not, they won't get loaded when needed. Tried to modprobe 'hid' and it whined about keybdev or something. I just recompiled my kernel statically with 'hid' and I also did it with the keyboard support. Sure that was unnecessary... I'll take it out to double check. So.... All is well.... The touchpad is dead and my USB works great now. Here's the config part.
[root@darkstar /usr/src/linux] make menuconfig
<*> Input core support
<*> Mouse support
<*> Support for USB[*] Preliminary USB device filesystem
<M> UHCI (Intel PIIX4, VIA, ...) support - (Intel Machines)
<*> USB Human Interface Device (full HID) support[*] HID input layer support
I think thats all there is to it..... I'm just listing all this so maybe this might help someone else.... I'm sure you could build all those as modules and then make sure you list them in modules.conf or something.... They apparently don't load on their own...... I've learned that Static options are best for some things..... It is proven to me time and time again...... O.k...
