An odd problem with Xfce version 4.2.3.2
 

I have -current on this box.
When I try to change my desktop using the settings manager for desktop/background, it doesn't change the background image.
No error messages, nothing.

Any ideas?

Hey CW, at the risk of belaboring the obvious, is your xfce directory writeable from your userid? Can you check and see if any of the settings you are making get saved properly?

I don't want to mess up my existing xfce (which I actually don't use very much) but if you don't get fixed up soon let me know and I'll get xfce from current (hopefully it doesn't need anything else in the way of packages) and see if it happens here.

So it seems it's not a permissions issue

All other settings can be changed, just not desktop background.

As it says: Weird.

It occurs on all my -current boxes, so it's not a isolated incident. (All installed as -current at different points in development.)

Restarted xfce, and now I can change the desktop.

Don't know why this happened. After the xfce restart, as soon as I select the image and click close, it changes now....Almost like the first tries enabled it, and the restart made it work....

Put down the keyboard and step away from the PC LOL. It was a bad day to stop drinking coffee :p

I would agree with you, if it wasn't for it happening on 4 different -current installs...

I would try to change background: No good.
I would restart xfce
I would try to change background (using EXACT same steps as above): Works

Must be a feature! That does sound pretty weird. I'm pretty happy with the version of xfce that came with 10.2. Maybe you can backlevel it if you have anymore problems.

Actually this has always happened to me .. I found it usually happens if I start xfce, start some other application and *then* try to change the background. If I start xfce and immediatly try to change the desktop background, it works. It's not too big of a deal since I know how to fix it easily.. but like I said .. this has always happened to me (too).
