i also use a nvidia card and amarok has crashed a couple of times on me too. most of the time the crash occurred when i switch into another desktop. i've also noticed that scrolling through my playlist seemed to be slower compared to when i was in 12 (or, amarok could just not keep up with how fast im scrolling through the list. never had that problem before though)
Bad news guys: composite is NOT enabled here, and the amarok crashes keeps on.
I have no clues now....
I've only experienced one crash and that was with the composite extension enabled. I appear to be quite a bit luckier than some others here, who report more frequent crashes. For those of you who experience more frequent crashes than I, it may be beneficial to try running "amarokapp" through gdb to troubleshoot the issue. I've tried doing that but couldn't convince the app to crash. Right now I'm just running it normally, but still no crashes here (and I've been playing with the global shortcut keys like a madman).
This actually appears to be a valid problem in Slackware, unless we're ALL doing something wrong (which I find unlikely). I'm usually the one who argues that it's generally the user's fault if something goes wrong with a stable Slackware release (excluding hardware issues, of course), especially since I've never had any problems. However, this one has me stumped. If I experience another crash with the composite extension disabled, I'll be more convinced it's a real problem. Has anyone e-mail Pat on the issue? (I won't be the one to e-mail since I've only experienced the crash once, and can't repeat the error so far)
The only thing I can recommend at this point is to reinstall fresh, use the generic-smp kernel, don't install any third-party apps at all, don't enable compiz, and see if the problem still occurs. If it does, try e-mailing Pat (or you could file a bug report with KDE, but I'm not sure that it's a KDE/amarok problem -- it may be an X problem).
