I just installed Amarok 2.2 on 13.0 and the new taglib packages. Unfortunately, the middle panel doesn't display anything and clicking on the Add Applet button only brings up a red X and green arrow. The X does nothing and the arrow causes Amarok to crash.
Are you using -current? I am staying with -stable and have installed vbatts' KDE 4.3.1 - along with the required taglib, liblastm and loudmouth, I have compiled Amarok 2.2 from source using the slackbuild from Slackware 13. I did have to run the mysql-embedded to get the library for mysql support in Amarok but everything is working great. I use Amarok for LastFM as much as anything else so I wanted the support for that to continue but you don't have to add the library for it if you don't need it. BTW the collection update is lightning fast with the mysql backend. I am very impressed. Now if they can get podcast to device worked out, I'll be in heaven.
