I just want to throw in... mplayer is the jack of all formats. It's amazing. You can get it to run and stream EVERYTHING with the proper codecs, which are all available at certain levels. There's almost nothing I haven't been able to do with it, barring running into activex controls, or certain windows-only requirements. Mplayer is universal.

I like to install the XMMS attachment for mplayer so I can play movies in XMMS as well as music. This harks me back to the days when I'd do everything with Winamp. And XMMS is basically "lin"amp.

You can always right click on the mplayerplug-in menu, select Configure and uncheck the realmedia support... That way you don't have to delete anything or compile it differently.
