This is my first post, so I'll start by saying WOW and THANKS for the great job by everyone on this site.
I've been a Mac person for the longest time, until trying Ubuntu on my MacBook and deciding to sell it for a $250 modern desktop with Linux. (Made $500.) Started with Slackware 12.0 running KDE and "moved up" to XFCE when I upgraded to 12.1....At this rate I'll be running strictly command-line *BSD in a year.
alsaconf seems to contradict /proc data. Seems paradoxical, but when I run alsamixer and hit '/' I can plainly see my Logitech V20 USB speakers identified as sound card 1, after on-board Intel as 0, but alsaconf can't find it after 5 seconds of looking. Furthermore, I can use alsamixer -c 1 to adjust the USB audio settings, but I don't get sound
half of the time. For example, I can hear sound now and 3 reboots ago but not the last 2 reboots. (No changes had been made.)
The reason I'm posting this under the Slackware subforum is because this is happening after a fresh reformat and install. Seems like a pretty scientific case.
Is it an ALSA bug?
