alsaconf screws up mouse

I've had this problem before, but now I know what I did before it happened. I ran alsaconf and when I restarted my comp I got this error:

(EE)xf86OpenSerial: cannot oppen device /dev/mouse
Device or resource busy
(EE)Mouse1: cannot open input device
(EE)PreInit failed for input device "Mouse1"
No core pointer

Fatal server error:
failed to initalize core devices

Can I fix this? How?

Silly question...does /dev/mouse exist?

Type this in a terminal window...

#ls /dev/mouse

and see if a valid entry comes back

If not, then you need to re-sym link /dev/mouse to the actual device.

You might also try this link...

http://lists.ethernal.org/cantlug-0208/msg00743.html

It might lead you to at least an idea or two.

whatever it points to, see if that device exists.

run xf86setuo again, or xorgsetup depends of the release that you are running

If it is 10.0, do you have by any chance a i810 chipset?
