alsaconf problem on slack 11.0 with kernel 2.6.18

Hey everyone,
I've been having non-stop problems getting sound to work with the 2.6.18 kernel on my laptop. It works fine with 2.4.33.3, but running alsaconf gets me messages like

Probing: opl3sa2grep: /sys/bus/pnp/devices/??:*/resources: No such file or directory
grep: /sys/bus/pnp/devices/??:*/resources: No such file or directory
etc etc etc

and then a freeze (no control whatsoever). From cat /proc/asound/cards it shows that I have the Yamaha opl3sa2 card on irq 9, and an lsmod seems to show that I have the modules loaded.

any suggestions where the error messages could be coming from? Like why are there random ??s in the file name?

Have you installed the modules for the 2.6 kernels off of the slackware CD? If you haven't, this is likely the problem. What it looks like to me is you're trying to configure a module that isn't there, which freaks alsa out and makes it sieze up.

Ok I installed th kernel-modules, -source, and -generic from the slackware CD, but alsaconf still freezes when I run it. Any way to check to see exactly what alsaconf is looking for, and where it should be?
