Red face ALSA WRITE ERROR: input/output error


hi there,

i need you help to listen to my mp3's again.
i start xmms and the mp3 is recognized but won't play,
the same happens when i tried to use cmdline mp3players amp and mpg123
the error message i get is :

ALSA WRITE ERROR: input/output error

what do i have to do to fix that ???

what ALSA packages did you have?
Make sure you have alsa-lib, alsa-utils, and alsa-driver (unless you compile your own kernel and use the ALSA modules included in the kernel) and opsional is alsa-oss

in xmms try ctrl+p and then change the driver to oss or arts... until it starts playing ... i was playing mp3 like that ...

i use the default Kernel vmlinuz for slackware 10.2
and it used to work.

any further tips and hints ?!


p.s. smoking is bad for your health

Are you upgrading some kind of packages which related to ALSA?

What's the output of "lsmod"

Also, did you run "alsaconf" as root before? I think you need to.
