ALSA prob: works fine as root but only partially as nonroot user.

ok i'm trying to get XMMS to use ALSA to be able to send sound through both DACs. It works bothways for root but as a nonroot, it will only use DAC 1, and if i used DAC 2 it would just freeze.

from this thread i found out that i can use [aplay -D hw:0,0 test1.wav] and [aplay -D hw:0,1 test2.wav] to output through either of the DACs, but i can only use [aplay -D hw:0,1 test2.wav]. if i used hw:0,1 it would just not do anything. without any parameters, it would do nothing, also. which is kinda weird because according to the thread (linked), DAC1 is hw:0,0 (which works with XMMS but not aplay) and DAC2 is hw:0,1 (which works with aplay but not XMMS).

alsa came with slack 9.1 but it wouldn't even work until i edited the sys line of /etc/group and added myself (choey). so is there more permission issues since for root it works fine but for a nonroot it partially works?

thanks for reading.

i just noticed that all the sound except from XMMS is delayed by about 1 second.

anyone know what the problems are?

NICE!

i got it to working by going to control center and the I/O thing to use ALSA. fixed both the probs and simultaneous sound playing works fine.
