ALSA: modprobe: Can't locate module snd

Hi,

I'm trying to get my alsa working on Slackware. I have a Turtle Beach Montegro II, which is supported in the driver snd-au8830. I have modified /etc/modules.conf as directed here:

(URL deferred due to LQ anti-spamming filter)

However, I've been unable to get this to work in both the vanilla 9.1 packages (0.96) and in the -current alsa packages (1.04). When I run alsaconf, I get the following errors:

Code:
modinfo: snd: no module by that name found
modinfo: snd: no module by that name found
modinfo: snd: no module by that name found
Similarly, when I manually install, I get:

Code:
bash-2.05b# modprobe snd-au8830
modprobe: Can't locate module snd-au8830
The card is PCI, and it is detected correctly (obviously, as the card works in windows):

Code:
bash-2.05b# lspci
<snip>
00:0e.0 Multimedia audio controller: Aureal Semiconductor Vortex 2 (rev fe)
Here is the lsmod. soundcore module seems ok...

Code:
bash-2.05b# lsmod

Any suggestions on what am I missing?

umm...
"bash-2.05b# modprobe snd-au8830
modprobe: Can't locate module snd-au8830"

Your kidding right? This.. has got to be a joke.. no one would possibly... well, I guess someone had to...

how about snd_au8830 since a - is not a valid character for a driver name...

Caeda: You can read more about snd-au8830 (and other drivers with hyphens) on the alsa-project web page.

On a hunch, I removed the slackware packages and recompiled from source. Now the modules seem to install correctly and alsaconf runs correctly.

Are the slack packages broken?
